Wood and the Environment
Respect for the Environment
In recent years, there has been an increase in interest regarding the safeguarding of the environment, particularly of forests. At the same rate, there has been a growth in attention and sensibility to products purchased. Wood-based products, for example, are appreciated by civil society and the world of production for being characterised by an environmental assessment, extensively better than that of other materials (such as steel, aluminium, cement, plastic, etc.), but their real sensibility towards the environment depends on the way in which the forests, from where the wood used to manufacture these products come from are managed. Cosmo has always looked into the problem of how to exercise real control over the provision of a precious material such as wood, by choosing to introduce in its production wood species originating from areas subject to controlled cutting and reforestation, with FSC certificates. FSC is a very complex, safeguarding certificate, which assures the sensibility of the system and the use of wood for economic purposes thanks to a series of verifications and methods of cutting, checks and reforestation.
Multi-layer parquet is in itself an ecological choice. The noble layer (upper-layer) which is the harder essence, that takes longer time to grow is used only where necessary, that is the visual layer, which is subject to wear. For the support layer a strong wood is used but more common and easily renewable such as rapid growing spruce or multi-layer birch.
All Cosmo Parquet 3 layer planks are realized using certified Spruce PEFC (programme for the Endorsement of the Forest Certification Schemes).
Protecting the environment and naturally protecting health, all of the complementary products used in the subsequent manufacturing processes are completely non-toxic, odourless and ecological.
